Government has not increased the price of edible oil: Commerce Advisor
Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin has said that the government has not increased the price of edible oil. He said this while talking to reporters at a program in Purbachal, the capital, on Tuesday (October 14). The Commerce Advisor said that traders have no right to increase prices without the approval of the ministry. He warned that the government will take necessary action if the prices are changed.
Earlier, a press release sent by the Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners and Bonaspati Manufacturers Association on Monday (October 13) said that after discussions with the Commerce Ministry, new prices have been fixed in line with the international market, which will be effective from today, October 14.
According to their announcement, the price of bottled soybean oil has been increased by Tk 6 per liter to Tk 195. On the other hand, the price of open soybean oil has been increased by Tk 8 per liter to Tk 177. In addition, the price of five-litre bottled soybean oil has been increased by Tk 23 to Tk 945 and the price of raw palm oil has been increased by Tk 13 to Tk 163 per litre.
After this price increase, there has been confusion among the public that the government has increased prices again. However, the Commerce Advisor clarified that the government has not given any instructions in this regard.
The Commerce Advisor also said that the government is still keeping a close watch on price control. Necessary measures are being taken to ensure that traders do not increase prices voluntarily.
