Typhoon Matmo hits China

Typhoon Matmo hit Suiyin, Guangdong Province, China on Sunday (October 5). The typhoon brought heavy rain to the province. The typhoon hit the country during one of the biggest holiday seasons of the year.
Typhoon Matmo caused flooding in the Philippines last week. Then it moved through China. The typhoon hit the Chinese coast at 2:50 pm local time on Sunday.
As the typhoon headed towards China, its winds were at 151 kilometers per hour.
China began an eight-day public holiday on Wednesday. That day was the country’s National Day. Millions of people were preparing to travel from one place to another due to the long holiday. The typhoon hit China at that time.
The typhoon had suspended ferry services in Hainan Province, known as the holiday center, since last Saturday evening. This resulted in widespread disruption to public transport.
Train and bus services were also suspended in some areas. Flights were also canceled as a precaution.
The storm weakened from a strong storm to a typhoon on Saturday. It then headed towards Guangdong. The typhoon is expected to weaken to a normal storm as it hits the coast.
