US cancels visas for more than 6,000 students

The administration of President Donald Trump has canceled the visas of more than 6,000 students in the United States. They have been charged with several charges, including violating the law and overstaying their visas, a State Department official said on Monday (August 18). The move, first reported by Fox Digital on Tuesday (August 19), comes as the Trump administration has taken a particularly tough stance on student visas as part of its crackdown on immigration. It has tightened social media scrutiny and expanded screening. In addition, this year, the State Department has instructed US diplomats to be wary of any applicants who are hostile to Washington and have a history of political activism. The official added that about 4,000 visas have been canceled for violations of the law. They have also been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs and theft. The official said that about 200 to 300 visas were canceled for terrorism. The official did not say which groups the students whose visas were canceled supported. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has clashed with several top-tier US universities after mass student protests in favor of Palestinian rights during the Gaza war. He has accused them of becoming hotbeds of anti-Semitism. The Trump administration has also cut off funding to Harvard in a dispute. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he has canceled the visas of hundreds, possibly thousands, of people, including students, because they were involved in activities that he said were against US foreign policy priorities.
