Case filed against driver over death after microbus falls into canal

A case has been filed against microbus driver Enayet Hossain Akbar in Begumganj, Noakhali, after seven people lost control of the microbus and fell into a canal due to the driver falling asleep. On Friday (August 8), at around 10 pm, Abdur Rahim, the father of the deceased and Omani expatriate Mohammad Bahar Uddin, filed the case at Begumganj Police Station. Driver Enayet Hossain Akbar is the son of the late Faiz Ahmed of Charchamita area of Hazirpara union of Lakshmipur Sadar upazila. According to sources, the microbus lost control and fell into a canal in Chandraganj area of Begumganj while the Omani expatriate Bahar Uddin and his family were returning home on Wednesday (August 6) morning. Bahar’s grandmother Faizun Nesa (80), mother Khurshida Begum (55), wife Kabita Begum (30), daughter Meem Akhter (2), sister-in-law Labani Begum (30), nieces Lamia Akhter (9) and Reshmi Akhter (10) died in the accident. Bahar, his father Abdur Rahim, father-in-law Iskander Mirza, sister-in-law Sweety Akhter and brother-in-law Riaz Hossain survived the accident. The family claims that the tragic accident occurred due to the driver falling asleep. The deceased are residents of Chaupalli area of Uttar Joypur Union in Sadar Upazila of Lakshmipur district. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Begumganj Police Station Md. Liton Dewan said that the case was filed at 10 pm on Friday and it will be transferred to Chandraganj Highway Police Station. Further legal action will be taken there.
