Rain wreaks havoc in Chittagong, waterlogging disrupts city life
Waterlogging has occurred in the low-lying areas of the port city of Chittagong due to continuous rain since night. On Thursday (July 7), it was seen on the ground that office-goers, working people and school and college students are facing difficulties in moving in several areas of the city including Agrabad, Katalganj, WASA, GEC due to waterlogging. The common people have complained that extra fares are being charged for rickshaws and CNG taking advantage of the public transport crisis. The city dwellers have alleged that such a situation has arisen due to garbage accumulating in drains and drains, creating obstacles in the movement of water. The Meteorological Office said that 31 millimeters of rain has been recorded in the last 24 hours till 6 am. The agency has instructed those living in the hills to move safely as there is a risk of landslides due to heavy rain. Meanwhile, work on a mega project to resolve waterlogging in Chittagong is underway, with a total cost of 14,390 crore taka. The Chittagong Development Authority, City Corporation, WASA and Water Development Board are implementing the project. The authorities claim that once the waterlogging relief project is fully completed, there will be no waterlogging in the city.
