Police claim situation under control despite increase in murders and robberies

Murders, aggravated robberies, and shootings without receiving ransom have increased across the country. According to the police headquarters, 1,931 cases of murder have been registered across the country in the first 6 months of this year, which is 391 more than the same period last year. There have been 972 cases of robbery and 367 robberies, which is almost double. However, the police claim that the law and order situation is under control. And crime analysts say that this claim does not match the reality. Recently, Jubo Dal leader Lal Chand alias Sohag was brutally murdered in front of Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka. There is a stir across the country regarding this. Although 8 people have been arrested so far, dozens of criminals are still at large. Although it has been a week since the brutal murder, there is a suppressed fear in the entire area. Locals say that no one is speaking out for fear of security. Everyone is in panic. On Friday (July 11), 20 to 30 miscreants attacked the office of AK Builders in Pallabi in the capital early in the morning. When locals resisted, they opened fire. One person was injured in the gunfire. AK Builders Chairman MA Qayyum Khan said that the attack was carried out after top terrorists Jamil and Mashiur demanded a ransom of Tk 5 crore but failed to get it. On the same day, on Shyamoli Road No. 2, robbers came on a motorcycle and grabbed a private company employee with a machete and took everything. They even took off the person’s T-shirt and shoes. Statistics show that crime has increased across the country, including the capital. According to the police headquarters, 1,931 murder cases have been registered across the country in the first six months of this year, compared to 1,539 during the same period last year. Robbery and robbery have also increased almost twice. A review of the police headquarters data shows that Dhaka division is the most crime-prone area. Chittagong division is in second place. Next is the capital. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) data also shows that murders, kidnappings and robberies have increased in the last 6 months. Still, unit spokesperson Muhammad Talebur Rahman claims that the law and order situation is under control. He said, the police are quite active. The incidents that are happening are coming to our attention and we are taking immediate action. The crime rate is at a tolerable level because regular action is being taken. Crime analysts said that the police’s claims about security measures do not match the reality. There is no alternative to increasing activity in crime-prone areas. In this regard, social and crime analyst Dr. Touhidul Haque said that the law enforcement agencies or other units that are with the law enforcement agencies should be given importance and should be strongly urged to find the criminals and bring them to justice. Law enforcement agencies have strengthened security across the country after several incidents created a sensation recently.
