Three brick kiln owners fined Tk 4.5 lakh
The owners of three brick kilns operating illegally in Kamalnagar, Laxmipur have been fined Tk 4.5 lakh by a mobile court. The fined owners are Belal Hossain, Bahar Molla and Ashrafuzzaman Russell.
Upazila Executive Officer and Mobile Court Executive Magistrate Rahat Uz-Zaman confirmed the matter on Wednesday night. Earlier, the drive was conducted in Charkadira and Torabganj unions of the upazila from noon to afternoon.
District Administration Executive Magistrate Md. Mojibur Rahman, Inspector of the Department of Environment Md. Muzaffar Hossain, army and police were present in the drive led by UNO Rahat Uz-Zaman. The kiln chimneys and furnaces were demolished during the drive.
The kilns are owned by Belal in Char Kadira Union, Messrs. Rahima Bricks, owned by Belal, and Messrs. Latif Bricks, owned by Bahar in the same union, and Messrs. Pakhi Bricks, owned by Russell in Torabganj Union.
The upazila administration said that three owners of the establishments were fined Tk 4.5 lakh in separate raids for illegally operating kilns. Each was fined Tk 1.5 lakh.
Kamalnagar Upazila Executive Officer Rahat Uz-Zaman told the media, “The chimneys and furnaces of the kilns were demolished during the raids. This drive will continue to stop the illegal kiln operations.”
