BGB member killed at Benapole border
A BGB member named Mozammel Hossain (45) was killed when his motorcycle lost control and crashed into a tree while chasing smugglers at the Putkhali border in Benapole. Another BGB member named Delwar Hossain (44) was seriously injured.
The accident occurred at a place called Ahmed Bridge on the Putkhali border at around 8:30 pm on Tuesday.
The BGB said that they learned through secret information that smugglers were staying at the Baropota Bazar on the border with a consignment of drugs smuggled from India. On receiving such information, Sepoy Mozammel Hossain and Havildar Delwar Hossain, working at the Masjid Bari Post of the Putkhali BOP under the Khulna 21 BGB Battalion, chased them on a motorcycle at high speed and lost control of their motorcycle and crashed into a tree at a place called Ahmed Bridge. They fell to the side of the road. Later, locals rescued them and took them to Sharsha Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared Mozammel dead. The injured Delwar was sent to Jessore General Hospital for better treatment.
Confirming the death of Sepoy Mozammel Hossain, Khulna 21 BGB Battalion Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Khurshid Anwar said, “BGB’s operation to catch the smugglers is ongoing.”
