    Mass Iftar organized at DU

A mass iftar program was held at Dhaka University (DU) to mark the first day of Ramadan. Organized by the Bangladesh Democratic Student Union, this iftar was attended by 300 to 400 students of the university. The iftar was held at the Student-Teacher Center (TSC) ground of Dhaka University on Sunday. Miswak was distributed among the students before the iftar.

Before the iftar, the leaders and activists of the Democratic Student Union performed Hamd and Naat-e-Rasul (PBUH). In addition, prayers were offered in memory of the martyrs and injured in the 24-year uprising.

Before the iftar, Abu Baker Majumder, the central convener of the Democratic Student Union, said, “After the Iftar was stopped in SAST last year, we held a mass iftar at Payra Chattar. This arrangement has been made in keeping with that continuity. More students than we expected participated in today’s iftar.”

Regarding the financial aspects of the Iftar, Abu Baker said, “The cost of the Iftar has been collected through well-wishers and public donations. The alumni of the university, who have spoken out against fascism, have also provided financial support to our initiative.”

Abdul Kader, the DU convener of the organization, said, “Last year, a large number of students participated in our mass Iftar and protested against the decision of the dictatorship. We want Islamophobia not to spread, but rather the current atmosphere to be maintained through the Iftar.”
