‘BNP will not fall into the trap of local elections’

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has alleged that there is an attempt to confuse the situation in the country by talking about local elections before national nirvana. He also commented that BNP will not fall into the trap of local elections.

He made these remarks while virtually joining the party’s extended meeting at the LD Hall premises of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at around 11 am today, Thursday.

Tarique Rahman said, ‘Although the statements of the chief advisor on the national elections at various times have created a positive impression in the public mind, the misleading statements and comments of some advisors on the national elections are becoming a cause of disappointment for the freedom-loving and democratic people. Although all pro-democracy political parties including BNP have unconditional support for the interim government, the government is still not able to set priorities in their action plan.’

Stating that murder, killing, rape, theft, robbery and extortion are increasing across the country, the BNP Acting Chairman said, ‘The prices of daily necessities are out of control due to the market syndicate. The current interim government has not yet been able to establish complete control over the law and order situation in the country.

He further said, “When the government is not able to achieve the desired success in controlling the market situation or the law and order situation in the country, it is incomprehensible to the people why they are trying to make the situation in the country more chaotic in the name of holding local elections before the national elections.”

Tareq Rahman said, “The people who love democracy think that if local elections are held, it will be a process of rehabilitating the accomplices of the absconding dictatorship across the country, which is directly against the aspirations of the people’s uprising. BNP will not fall into this trap of rehabilitating the corrupt mafia gang that is committing mass murder and laundering money.”

Calling on the interim government, the BNP leader said, “Retreat from the plan of holding local elections to rehabilitate the mafia gang that is committing mass murder and laundering money.” Immediately announce the roadmap for the interim government’s specific action plan for the future.

Stating that BNP is committed to the people, Tarique Rahman said, “If BNP gets the responsibility of running the state through popular vote in the upcoming national elections, it will bring the genocide and crimes against humanity to justice.”
