What the fire service said about the origin of the fire

The fire started in a restaurant on the sixth floor of Zaman Tower in Paltan, the capital, said Md. Saleh Uddin, deputy director of the Dhaka division of the Fire Service. He told reporters this after controlling the fire at 8 am today, Wednesday.

Md. Saleh Uddin said, “The fire in Zaman Tower started in a restaurant on the sixth floor of the building. The building had fire safety. However, none of them worked properly.”

Stating that Zaman Tower had central AC, the fire service official said, “It was completely covered with combined glass. There was a lot of ventilation problem. Basically, the fire was on the sixth floor. The fire went up through the electronic dark pan from the sixth floor and spread. The level of fire was low at the top, but there was a lot of smoke.”

He also said, “Due to ventilation problems, fire and smoke spread between the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th floors. Smoke also spread to the electrical dark lines and stairs. Even then, the fire service personnel worked at risk. Water was supplied from outside using TTL. Then, the fire was extinguished by entering the building with water.’

Md. Saleh Uddin said, ‘We have not received any casualties in the fire incident at Zaman Tower so far. I hope there are no casualties. Two people have been rescued alive from the 10th floor.’

The fire service official also said that an investigation will be conducted into the cause of the fire at Zaman Tower at this time.
