Jamaat suspends mass sit-in program

The Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has postponed its public sit-in program in front of the office of the Chief Advisor to demand the unconditional release of Assistant Secretary General ATM Azharul Islam.

In a statement sent to the media on Monday evening, Jamaat Secretary General and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar said, “Considering the overall situation in the country, the public sit-in program announced by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on February 25 in front of the office of the Chief Advisor has been postponed for the time being.”

He also said, “In view of the request of senior leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has also agreed to postpone his voluntary arrest program for the time being.”
