KUET students on their way to Dhaka to meet with the chief advisor
Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Machud, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Shariful Islam’s resignation and new appointments, including the six-point demands, have left for Dhaka to meet Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
80 students left for Dhaka from the KUET campus in two buses at 8 am today, Sunday. At that time, the students had red cloths tied on their heads.
Earlier, at around 6:30 am on Sunday, the students held a press briefing on the campus. At that time, they said, ‘We are insecure on the campus. That is why we will meet the Chief Advisor with our demands. Then we will go to a safe place. From there, our activities will continue online. We will not return to the campus until our demands are met.’
The students said, ‘We are leaving the campus at this time. We cannot dare to go to the bus stand. So we have brought buses to the campus with our own funds.’
They said, ‘We asked the KUET authority for bus assistance. They did not provide us any assistance. Since the government has turned its back on us, we are completely shutting down the campus with red cloths on our eyes. No academic or administrative work will be carried out on the KUET campus until our demands are met.’
‘Even five days after the incident, there has been no assurance of any assistance from the government,’ the students said, ‘Our unarmed students have been attacked with machetes and ramdas, which no one has dared to do in any educational institution since the July Revolution. Yet in this attack, our students’ heads have been split open and their hands have been cut into three pieces.’
‘This campus is not safe for us. Where the armed forces were supposed to provide security after the attack, there is no one except the KUET security guards. We are providing our security now,’ said the protesting students. They claimed, ‘The landlords of the students living outside the campus have asked them to vacate their houses. They are receiving threats from many places. We are all scared, our families are scared. We are not safe inside or outside the campus. We are without guardians. There is no one to protect us.
