100 arrested in Gazipur including former MP in Operation ‘Devil Hunt’
100 people, including a former member of parliament (MP), have been arrested in a ‘Devil Hunt’ operation in Gazipur. The district police arrested 21 people and the metropolitan police arrested 79 people in the operation on Sunday night.
Former Awami League MP from Sirajganj-6 constituency Chayan Islam and Kashimpur Police Station Ward No. 1 Awami League General Secretary Shamsul Alam Gayen, who were hiding, were arrested from Sreepur in Gazipur.
In addition, the Gazipur Metropolitan Police arrested Gazipur Metropolitan Jubo Mohila League President Anwara Sarkar from Uttara last night.
Gazipur Superintendent of Police (SP) Chowdhury Jaber Sadek said this Monday morning that the Gazipur District Police arrested 21 people in an overnight operation. All of them were people from the previous fascist Awami League government.
When asked, Alamgir Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Special Branch of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, said that police from eight police stations in the metropolis had arrested 79 people from different areas till 12 midnight yesterday.
