There are plans to build a land port in Ghumdhum: Dr. Sakhawat

Advisor to the Ministry of Shipping, Brigadier General (Retd) Dr. M Sakhawat Hossain, has inspected the border road in Naikshongchhari Upazila of Bandarban and the possible site for the construction of the Ghumdhum land port.

Dr. M. Sakhawat Hossain spoke to reporters after inspecting the possible site for the Ghumdhum border road and land port at 11 am today, Saturday.

At that time, he said, I have seen the border road. I have seen the site for the construction of the land port. There are plans for it. We will look into the future and see if a land port can be built there or not. Because, no matter what happens in Myanmar in the future, we had a relationship with Rakhine State before, still have and will continue to have it. Since the Rohingya are from that area. So we will look at that too, and make a plan for the future, so that a land port can be built there.

He also said that the land route is more convenient than the waterway with Myanmar’s Rakhine State. Therefore, the Asian Transroad in Ghumdhum is easy for the communication system for the two countries. We have a port in Teknaf with Myanmar, we will look at that place, you know why there was a trade deficit with Myanmar. Some imports are made there, due to the conflict inside Myanmar, the import of trade goods had decreased somewhat, they will return to normal depending on the situation. At the same time, the government has plans to implement the construction of a land port in the possible place of construction of a land port in Ghumdhum.

Sakhawat said, which is our easy land connection with Arakan or Rakhine. Since the Rohingyas are in that area. So we will look at that too, we will plan for the future, so that a port can be built there. We call Teknaf port a land port, but in fact it is not a land port. It may become a sea port or if there is any international issue, we will see.

Later, when he went to inspect the activities of Teknaf Land Port, Bangladesh Land Port Authority Chairman (Additional Secretary) Manjarul Mannan, Cox’s Bazar Additional Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdullah Yamin, Commander of 34 BGB in Cox’s Bazar Lt. Col. Md. Faruk Hossain Khan, along with senior administration officials and concerned persons were present.
