Trump’s surprising plan for Gaza ownership
US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will take ownership of the war-torn Gaza Strip in Palestine. He said that after resettling Palestinians from Gaza, the valley will be economically developed.
Trump announced this surprising plan at a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is visiting the United States.
Although Trump did not give details of his plan at the press conference.
This news was reported by Al Jazeera.
At the press conference, Trump said, “We will own Gaza and eliminate all the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons there, level the land and we will get rid of the destroyed buildings, level them. We will do economic development there that will create a lot of jobs and housing for the people of that area.”
When asked if the United States would send troops to the Gaza Strip, he replied, “If necessary, we will. We are going to occupy that part. We are going to develop it, create thousands of jobs and it will be something that the entire Middle East can be very proud of.’
The US President said, ‘I have studied this very closely for many months and I have looked at it from every different angle. It is a very dangerous place and it is only going to get worse. I think this idea is extraordinary and I am saying this from the highest level of leadership and if the United States can help bring stability and peace to the Middle East, we will do it.’
When asked if this meant he supported a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Trump said, ‘It doesn’t mean anything about two-states or one-states or any other state. It means we want to give people a chance at life. They never got a chance at life because the Gaza Strip has become a hellhole for the people who live there.’
In this regard, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said, ‘To secure our future and bring peace to our region, we have to finish the job. Israel must make sure that Gaza never again becomes a threat to Israel.’
In response to a question about who would be in Gaza if the Palestinians left, Trump said, ‘I think the potential of the Gaza Strip is incredible. I think the whole world, representatives from the whole world, would be there and they would live there. Palestinians would live there. A lot of people would live there.’
He said, ‘The Gaza Strip would become the Riviera of the Middle East. We have an opportunity to do something that could be extraordinary.’
