4 youths arrested during torture with intent to kill
In Baliakandi, Rajbari, four youths were caught red-handed while torturing a man named Md. Alam Sheikh (45) with the intention of killing him and handed him over to the police by the villagers.
The incident took place at an abandoned brick kiln in Bhimnagar village of Sadar Union of Baliakandi Upazila at around 8 pm on Tuesday. The injured Alam has been admitted to Baliakandi Hospital. He is the son of Selim Sheikh of Majbari area of Pagla police station in Mymensingh district and a meat trader at Tongi Cheragaali Baro Deora Fakir Market.
The arrested are Sabuj Roy (22) son of Haren Roy of Thakurgay Sadar police station, Hira Sheikh (28) son of the deceased Mahfuz Ali Sheikh, Abu Bakkar Siddique (18) son of Ashraful Ali Sheikh and Farhad Mondal (38) son of Dhunchir Anu Mondal of Rajbari Sadar.
It is learnt that meat trader Alam was having an extramarital affair with the wife of Farhad, a worker at Zakir’s brick kiln in Sadar Union, Baliakandi. Following her, Farhad planned to bring her to Bhimnagar village in Rajbari Baliakandi and took her to an abandoned brick kiln at around 8 pm. Four people tried to bury her alive in the ground. At that time, locals rushed to rescue her after hearing her screams and also caught the four people who were trying to kill her and handed her over to the police.
Baliakandi Police Station OC Jamal Uddin confirmed the matter and said that after receiving the information, they quickly reached the spot and rescued four people from the public and took them into police custody. One person was rescued injured and sent to the hospital. Legal action will be taken after collecting more information and data in this regard.
