Group photo session will not be a tradition at Ekushey Padak award ceremony.
The government has decided to do away with the traditional practice of group photo sessions at the Ekushey Padak award ceremony, the second highest national honor. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs announced this in a press release on Monday.
Quoting Mostafa Sarwar Farooqui, Advisor to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, the press release said that discussions have been going on in various quarters since Sunday regarding the group photo sessions of the Bangla Academy awardees. According to the previous practice, a formal group photo session is organized for the awardees with representatives of the government or the awarding institution. So far, no disagreement or objection has been heard in this regard.
It also said that the current government is moving on the path of reform and modernization, so there is an opportunity to rethink any traditional practice. A detailed discussion was held yesterday at the Ministry of Cultural Affairs on how to organize group photo sessions at the award ceremony in a more dignified manner and while maintaining the dignity of the awardees. After the discussion, it was decided that this traditional practice of group photo sessions will be dropped from this year’s Ekushey Padak award ceremony.
It has also been reported that the ministry is working on organizing group photo sessions for Ekushey Padak recipients in a more dignified and reasonable manner.
