Ceasefire in Gaza, new phase of talks to begin tomorrow
The second phase of the ongoing ceasefire talks in the besieged Gaza Strip is beginning. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will begin these talks tomorrow, Monday. He will be accompanied by US President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.
Netanyahu is scheduled to leave for Washington tonight. There, he will meet with Trump at the White House next month. There, the issue of releasing Israeli hostages will also be discussed.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said that the second phase of the ceasefire will be discussed at this meeting. Witkoff will then talk to Egyptian and Qatari officials about the issues, and they will talk to Hamas.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched more than a thousand rocket attacks targeting Israeli territory. Many Israelis were killed. Many civilians were taken hostage. In response, Israeli forces intensified their long-standing oppression of the Gazans. Their aggression has killed more than 47,000 people. More than 100,000 have been injured. Most of them are civilians. After more than a year of global pressure, the two sides agreed to a ceasefire this month.
