    MATS students leave Shahbagh

Students of the Medical Assistant Training School (MATS) have withdrawn their program and left Shahbagh intersection in the capital. Traffic in the area returned to normal when they left Shahbagh intersection around 5 pm today, Wednesday.

Announcing the end of the program, Mujahidul Islam, coordinator of the General MATS Students’ Unity Council, said, “They have said that they will accept our demands in the discussions at the secretariat. However, they have asked us for some time. We have given them seven days. If their demands are not met within this time, we will hold a long march program.”

Earlier, students blocked Shahbagh intersection around 11:30 am today with four demands, including immediate appointment of vacant posts in the 10th grade and creation of employment. As a result, traffic jams occurred in Shahbagh and its surrounding areas.

The demands of the MATS students are:

    1) Immediate appointment of vacant posts in the 10th grade and creation of new posts at the government and private levels.

    2) Revision of internship allowance and course curriculum.

    3) Establishment of an independent Medical Education Board by canceling the proposed Allied Health Professional Board.

    4) Immediately ensure access to higher education in clinical subjects recognized by BMNDC.
