Top terrorist Emon is desperate to expand his dominance.

Dhaka’s ‘underworld’ is heating up again. Until now, top terrorists used to control the capital’s criminal empire by sitting in prison and abroad. Taking advantage of the situation that emerged after the July uprising, six of the 23 top terrorists listed came out of prison on bail. They had been in prison for a decade to more than a century and a half. After their release from prison, some of them became active openly and some behind the scenes to maintain their dominance.

Sanjidul Islam Emon is one of the six top terrorists released from prison after August 5. He was released on bail on the afternoon of August 15. It is alleged that Emon and his cadres have become reckless in expanding their dominance after their release. They have divided the area and established an extortion ring in Dhaka South City. Almost all areas of Dhaka South business, crockery business, transportation, sidewalks, markets, shoe business, government and private land occupation, building construction (developer) institutions, clothing and other sectors have tenders worth crores of taka.

The extortion ring is now in the hands of Emon. His cadres have set the monthly extortion rate for businessmen from sidewalk tea shops to multi-storey buildings. If the demanded extortion money is not paid, they attack the businessmen in groups with weapons.

After not receiving the last extortion money, Emon’s masked cadres publicly hacked and killed two computer business leaders on the road in front of the Multiplan Center on Elephant Road in the capital at midnight last Friday. Although the president of the Elephant Road Computer Businessmen’s Welfare Association, Md. Wahidul Hasan Dipu, who was injured in the attack, was released from the hospital.

Police have arrested two youths, Asif Jhantu and Kausar Uddin, for their alleged involvement in the brutal attack. However, as of the time of writing this report last night, the police have not arrested any of the accused in the case related to the attack, which include top terrorist Sanjidul Islam Emon, his accomplice Munna, AKM Chanchal, Khokon, Sayeed Asad, Jasim alias Kala Jasim, Tushar alias Killer Tushar, Toufiq Ehsan and Zahid. Although there were reports of the arrest of a man named Atiq yesterday, no one involved in the investigation could confirm the truth of this.
