Hajj agreement signed with Saudi Arabia, minimum 1,000 passengers per agency.
This time Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh have signed a ‘Hajj agreement’, where the quota of at least 1,000 pilgrims per agency has been maintained. The bilateral agreement was signed at 10 am local time in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Religious Advisor Dr. A.F.M. Khalid Hossain on behalf of Bangladesh and Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah Tawfiq bin Fawzan Al Rabia on behalf of Saudi Arabia signed the agreement.
At the agreement signing ceremony at the Saudi Ministry of Religion’s Conference Hall in Jeddah, the Religious Advisor discussed the progress of Bangladesh’s overall Hajj management with the Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah. At that time, the Religious Advisor requested the Minister to reconsider the issue of reducing the quota of at least 1,000 pilgrims for Bangladeshi Hajj agencies.
But the Saudi Hajj and Umrah Minister informed the Saudi government about the decision to maintain the quota of at least 1,000 pilgrims per agency. The religious advisor said that the number of such travel agencies operating Hajj on behalf of Bangladesh is 750.
In a bilateral meeting held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in October 2024, the religious advisor requested the Saudi Hajj and Umrah Minister to reduce the minimum quota of pilgrims per agency from 2,000 to 250. In response to his request, the Saudi Hajj and Umrah Ministry reduced the minimum quota of pilgrims per Bangladeshi agency from 2,000 to 1,000 for 2025. However, next year, this quota will be 2,000 per agency.
At that time, Religious Affairs Secretary AKM Aftab Hossain Pramanik, Additional Secretary of the Hajj Department Matiul Islam, Bangladesh Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Delwar Hossain, Consul General Mia Mohammad Mainul Kabir, Councilor (Hajj) Md. Zahirul Islam and Private Secretary to the Advisor Sadeq Ahmed, senior officials of the Royal Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah were present.
