Dhaka’s air is becoming hazardous.
Day by day, Dhaka’s air is being hazardous. The arrival of winter especially increases the hazards of the air quality. At the beginning of winter this year, the air quality remained ‘very unhealthy’ for a couple of consecutive days. Continuing that trend, the air of Dhaka remained in a ‘very unhealthy’ condition even today. At around 10 am today – Sunday, international air quality technology company IQAir has issued the list of air pollution.
Kuwait City, which tops the list for air pollution, records a score of 669. This indicates that the air quality here is hazardous for the citizens. Dhaka ranks number two on the list with a score of 308. The air quality here is hazardous for the citizens. Additionally, Lahore, Pakistan ranks third with a score of 273.
An AQI score ranging from zero to 50 is considered good. Scores from 51 to 100 are moderate. A score from 101 to 150 is unhealthy for sensitive groups. An AQI of 151 to 200 is labeled as ‘unhealthy’ air. Besides, an AQI between 201 and 300 is classified as ‘very unhealthy’. In that case, it is recommended that children, the elderly and sick patients stay indoors and others avoid heavy outdoor activity.
Besides, an AQI between 301 and 400 falls in the ‘hazardous’ category, which is seriously hazardous to the health of the city’s inhabitants. AQI is generally determined based on five types of pollution. Such as: particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5), NO2, CO, SO2 and ozone (O3).
