Writ seeking ban on Indian TV channels in Bangladesh.
A writ has been filed in the High Court seeking ban on the broadcast of all Indian TV channels inside Bangladesh.
A Supreme Court lawyer filed the writ on Monday. A division bench of the High Court may hear the writ petition this week.
The writ has asked for a ban on the broadcast of all Indian TV channels as per Section 29 of the Cable Television Network Management Act-2006. At the same time, a request has been made to issue a rule asking why instructions will not be given to stop the broadcast of Indian TV channels in Bangladesh.
The information secretary, home secretary, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and other concerned parties have been made respondents in the writ.
The lawyer of the writ petitioner said that the broadcast of all TV channels including Indian channels Star Jalsa, Star Plus, Zee Bangla, Republic Bangla has been sought. Various provocative news is being broadcast on Indian TV channels. Apart from this, due to the free broadcasting of various programs against Bangladeshi culture on Indian channels, the youth society is facing destruction. They are not following any law. For these reasons, the broadcasting of all Indian channels has been asked to be stopped.
