“Hasnat-Sarjis assassination attempt” Said Jamaat Ameer

Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam were the victims of an assassination attempt on their way back from the funeral of slain lawyer Saiful Islam Alif in Chittagong. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has reacted to the incident. He expressed concern about the matter in a post on his verified Facebook page.

The accident occurred on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway at around 7:30 pm on Wednesday. The police have arrested the truck driver and helper after the incident.

Expressing surprise at the assassination attempt, the Jamaat Ameer wrote in a Facebook post, ‘A private car carrying Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam was hit by a truck! Was it an assassination attempt or a simple accident? It must be investigated properly. The matter is really worrying.’

Earlier on Wednesday, a car in the convoy of Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, conveners of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, met with an accident. The front part of the car was twisted. The second funeral of deceased lawyer Saiful Islam Alif of the Chittagong Metropolitan Court was held this afternoon. Hasnat and Sarjis attended the funeral at the Jamiatul Falah Mosque ground in the city.

Hasnat Abdullah, convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, spoke to the media after the accident. Regarding the accident and their current condition, he said, “We are all physically healthy. The accident occurred in the car in front of the car we were in. The police have arrested the killer truck driver and helper. Legal action is underway in this regard.”

Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah also posted a status on social media Facebook about the incident. On Wednesday night, Sarjis and Hasnat wrote in a similar status, “Can we kill? Can we not. We are the successors of Abrar and Alif. Remember – martyrs do not die.
