Anarchy, riots, chaos every day: Who is behind it?

After the change of power, continuous anarchy continues in Dhaka. People from different classes, professions and organizations are getting involved in terrible bloody clashes over trivial incidents including protests to achieve their demands. As time passes, the anarchy is increasing. Rickshaw pullers are also paralyzing different areas of Dhaka. Recently, several colleges have also been reduced to rubble in a series of clashes between students. Despite advance warnings of attacks, law enforcement agencies are failing to prevent them.

Concerned parties believe that the anarchy is increasing day by day due to the inaction of the forces as well as the failure to take quick and correct decisions. There are allegations that the attackers against the students and the public in the July mass uprising are fueling the attacks and participating in the anarchy from the field as well as from social media.

Associate Professor Dr. Touhidul Haque, a social and criminal expert at Dhaka University, said that there may be demands. But the government should be careful about the anarchy and suffering that is happening. The strategy of holding people hostage to obtain demands is a long-standing one. It should be investigated whether there is any other fuel or influence in vandalism in educational institutions. If this continues, panic will be created. People have to go out with anxiety before taking to the streets. They are not taking this well.

Regarding the law enforcement agencies, Touhidul Haque said that the moral position of the police has already collapsed in the July coup. Now if something is presented on social media, the trial starts there. If the law enforcement agencies are to be used, personal attacks on the police must be stopped.

In the incident of vandalism at the Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College and Kabi Nazrul College in Old Dhaka, a terrible attack and vandalism was announced yesterday at Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Molla College (DMRC). Those concerned said that even after the attack was announced a day ago, the government did not take strong measures to prevent it. Vandalism was seen to be carried out unhindered at Molla College since noon. The police did not play a significant role in stopping them. The protesters used mikes to vandalize. If measures had been taken in advance, the situation would not have escalated to this point.

DMRC College Managing Director Ashraf Samir said that last Sunday night, the college principal and chairman sought cooperation from the police. But the police did not cooperate as expected. If the administration had cooperated, this terrible situation would not have happened. Teachers and students said that every department, lab of the college was vandalized by students of Suhrawardy and Kabi Nazrul College. The law enforcement agencies are fully responsible for this. They watched the joke without taking any action.

However, DMP’s Media and Public Relations Department Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Talebur Rahman said that the police had been on alert since the announcement. The police worked to control the situation.

Meanwhile, amid the clashes and violence, hundreds of people were brought to Dhaka yesterday from various parts of the country, including Pabna, Kushtia, Manikganj, Narayanganj, with the promise of interest-free loans of one lakh to crores of taka. An organization called ‘Non-Violent Mass Uprising Bangladesh’ brought them to Dhaka. DC Masud Alam of Ramna Division of DMP said that 19 people, including the head of the alleged organization, have been arrested. Various charges, including attempted sabotage, are being brought against them. Sources concerned said that by sabotaging the rally, they were trying to show the international community that the common people of the country do not want this government. There was also a plan to paralyze Dhaka. Their activities were thwarted by the law enforcement agencies.

On the other hand, as part of the continuous protests and blockades that have been going on for several days, rickshaw pullers blocked the road in Agargaon yesterday. This stopped traffic in the entire area.

In the first few days after the interim government came to power, protests and clashes on the streets of the residence of the Chief Advisor and in front of the Secretariat came into widespread discussion. After that, from August 26, any kind of meeting, gathering, procession, procession, or demonstration was banned in the vicinity of the residence of the Chief Advisor on Jamuna and in front of the Secretariat. Even after this, incidents of blocking roads based on area for various demands were happening. In the meantime, the movement of students from seven colleges came into the discussion again.

Then there were several clashes between students from Dhaka College and City College. They started a movement demanding the conversion of Titumir College in Dhaka into a university and blocked roads and train tracks and threw stones. After the suspension of the movement of Titumir College students, the movement of battery-powered auto-rickshaw drivers came into the discussion. They have been gathering in different places in Dhaka for the past few days and have been blocking traffic, causing great suffering to the people. Last Wednesday, they blocked roads in various places including Dayaganj, Mirpur, Kalyanpur in Jatrabari of the capital. The next day, Thursday, they blocked roads in Mohakhali, Agargaon and Mazar Road areas of Dhaka. In addition, on Sunday night, bloody clashes broke out between students of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute and Bangladesh Textile University (Butex) in Tejgaon Industrial Area.

Explaining the role of the police in the student clashes, Youth and Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud wrote on his Facebook page, “Seeing the aggressiveness and preparedness, the law enforcement agencies did not take strict action. If any action had been taken, there would have been clashes and bloodshed between the law enforcement agencies and the students.”

However, the DMP has informed that no one was killed in the clash between the students of Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul College and Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Molla College. The DMP has requested everyone to refrain from spreading misinformation.
