What will be done with the assets of former MPs and ministers?

Hasnat Abdullah, convener of the anti-discrimination student movement, has said that all the assets of former Awami League MPs and ministers should be confiscated as soon as possible. He announced this decision after an emergency meeting with all other student organizations at Bangla Motor in the capital on Monday night.

After the meeting, it was also announced to observe a ‘National Student Solidarity Week’ for the next week. This program was announced to prevent the rehabilitation of Awami fascism and resolve the ongoing unrest in educational institutions.

Commenting on the Chhatra League’s incitement, Hasnat Abdullah said, ‘We have been seeing various conspiracies going on for the past few days to rehabilitate Awami fascists. Even at the same time, various institutional movements have started. People wearing lungis as students are also coming and beating up students, whom anyone can understand just by looking at them.’

‘We have seen that Chhatra League has incited the rickshaw pullers’ movement and tried to create a violent situation. So today, all the student organizations have agreed that we will observe ‘National Student Solidarity Week’ for the next one week,’ said the convener of the anti-discrimination student movement.

Demanding that all the assets of MPs and ministers should be confiscated as soon as possible, Hasnat Abdullah said, ‘During the last 16 years of misrule, the Awami League has emptied the country’s banks by laundering money. You know that one MP also has more than 300 houses abroad. We all agreed in today’s meeting that all the assets of those MPs and ministers should be confiscated as soon as possible.’

He said, ‘We see that even while sitting abroad, they have continued their various conspiracies against the country. If all their assets are not confiscated, they will continue to conspire in this way and create chaos in one country after another. Therefore, we demand from the government that measures must be taken to confiscate their assets as soon as possible.’

Hasnat Abdullah said that the Awami League will not be given any more opportunities for rehabilitation, and added, ‘We have decided to hold this week-long program to prevent the rehabilitation of Awami fascism and to keep the institutional ties intact. Every anti-fascist political party and student organization will adopt a zero tolerance policy on the issue of the rehabilitation of the Awami League from now on. That is, the Awami League will not be given any more opportunities for rehabilitation in any format.’

Convenor Hasnat Abdullah, chief organizer Abdul Hannan Masud and spokesperson Umama Fatima were present at the meeting on behalf of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Apart from this, other participants included Amanullah Aman, Central Organizing Secretary of Chhatra Dal, Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahas, President of Dhaka University (DU) Chhatra Dal, SM Farhad, Secretary of DU Islami Chhatra Shibir, Jamaluddin Mohammad Khalid, President of Swadhin Bangladesh Chhatra Sangsad, Muntasir Ahmed, Central Secretary General of Islamic Shasantantram, Organizing Secretary Imran Hossain Noor, and Public University Secretary Khairul Ahsan Marjan, Central President of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, Bin Yamin Molla, Secretary Nazmul Hasan, President of Chhatra Federation, Mashiur Rahman Khan Richard, and Secretary Saikat Arif, among others.
