An invisible wall of impossible power awaits ahead for BNP: Tarique Rahman

Stating that the escaped power is conspiring, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman said, ‘If the conspiracy succeeds, the leaders and activists will have to face terrible danger again.

Therefore, every leader and activist must be very careful. Those who think the electoral field is empty are making a huge mistake. An invisible wall of impossible power awaits ahead. To survive, we have to go to the people. We have to do what the people want.’ For this, he has instructed the leaders and activists to go door to door with the 31 points announced by BNP.

Tarique Rahman made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest while virtually joining the closing ceremony of BNP’s Rajshahi divisional training workshop titled ‘31 points for repairing the state structure and public engagement’ at the Rajshahi Zilla Parishad auditorium this Saturday afternoon.

Tarique Rahman said, ‘Whatever we want to do in the future, we want to do it with the people and inform the people. BNP is a party in which the people have confidence. The source of everything for BNP is the people. So stay with the people, keep the people with you. Everything is possible if you are with the people. If we are to survive, we must be with the people.’

Tarique Rahman also answered various questions from the leaders about the 31 points announced by BNP. In response to a question from Golam Kabir, joint convener of Shibganj Upazila Krishak Dal of Chapainawabganj, about the initiative to withdraw the missing cases, Tarique Rahman said, ‘During the past dictatorship, false cases were filed against about 6 million of our leaders and activists.

This is known throughout the country as the missing cases. Of course, we are talking to the government about this. This is a legal process, an ongoing process. It may not be possible all at once. We will definitely get the missing cases withdrawn or be able to do so in stages.’

Bogra’s advocate Mozammel Haque told the acting chairman of the party that currently many Awami League leaders and activists are being arrested by the law enforcement agencies, but they are being granted bail immediately in the court. Whereas earlier, BNP leaders and activists were not granted bail so quickly. What decision will be taken regarding these judges? In response, Tarique Rahman said, ‘This is where the difference between us and them lies. We want to break the discrimination that we have been subjected to.’

He said, ‘We want to develop the practice so that people do not become victims of discrimination. This requires some time. The previous authoritarian government has destroyed not only the judicial system, but every system. We have seen some dummy elections, some late-night elections, and some elections of vote theft.

There was never a real representative of the people. So they did whatever they wanted. We want a real representative of the people in the future. If we can give a place to a qualified person in the future, only then will we be able to change this country.’

In response to the question of whether all information will be open to citizens if we come to power, Tarique Rahman said, ‘There is one issue here. There are some issues of state security. These issues must be viewed from the perspective of normal security. It is probably not possible to disclose everything all the time. Whatever is outside of this must be transparent. Anyone can see it. We have to build this system.’

Another leader questioned the party’s position on getting a fair share of Padma water from Farakka Dam. At that time, acting chairman Tarique Rahman said, ‘We have an idea about Farakka Dam. This is an international issue. When other governments outside BNP came to power, they did not see it properly.

The degenerate dictatorial government did not do it intentionally to please neighboring countries. This is an international lobby, we will definitely work with experts in time. If necessary, we will work with international experts in the interest of the country to get our fair share.’

In response to another question from a party leader, Tarique Rahman said that he intends to plant 50 million trees in five years if the state comes to power. He said, ‘The sea level is rising due to climate change. Studies are showing that there is a risk of most, half or less of Bangladesh being submerged. We have to protect the people of this country.

During the Khaleda Zia government, we used to hold tree fairs. We have to start this program again, no matter what. Everyone should be encouraged to plant trees. Trees are an important part of nature. Personally, I have a plan. If we get the opportunity in the future, we will plant five crore trees in five years.’

Earlier, this training workshop started in the morning. BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council member Ismail Zabiullah, Chairperson’s Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee member Dr. Mahadi Amin, BNP Chairperson’s one of the advisors Mizanur Rahman Minu and central leader Ruhul Quddus Talukder gave speeches.

BNP Training Secretary Rashida Begum Hira and Krishak Dal Joint General Secretary Mahmuda Habib discussed the workshop. BNP Rajshahi Division Organizing Secretary Syed Shahin Shawkat presided over the workshop. Central leaders Obaidur Rahman Chandan, Amirul Islam Alim, Abdus Sattar Patwari, Rehena Akhter Banu, Newaz Halima Arli, Shafiqul Haque Milon, among others, were present at the workshop, which was moderated by ABM Mosharraf Hossain, member secretary of the BNP’s training committee.
