35 IS fighters died in US strike in Syria
The United States military claimed that more than 35 members of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group were killed in an airstrike by the US military in Syria earlier this week.
According to a report by The New York Times, the military announced that IS members were killed in the attack on Wednesday.
Incidentally, US forces have been conducting continuous operations against Iraq and Syria recently. Islamic State and other Islamic groups once controlled large areas of both countries.
Meanwhile, in a statement given on social media, the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said, “In the Syrian desert, several positions have been targeted targeting IS senior leaders.”
CENTCOM said there were no indications of civilian casualties in Monday’s attack.
The statement added that the attack disrupted IS’s ability to plan, organize and launch attacks against civilians throughout Syria and beyond, as well as against US allies and partners.
Earlier last week, US and Iraqi forces conducted a joint operation against IS. At that time, Baghdad claimed that at least 9 militants were killed in this joint operation. They also claimed that top IS leaders were among the dead.
On October 18, CENTCOM said the same thing, “At the end of August, 14 IS fighters were killed in the western desert of Iraq in a joint operation by US and Iraqi forces; Among whom there were four leaders of the group.
About 900 US troops are deployed in Syria and 2500 in Iraq as part of the international anti-IS coalition formed in 2014 to help fight IS. These troops are still stationed in these two countries.
It should be noted that the US military has often attacked IS militants in Syria and Iraq.
