A private car hit 7 young people walking on the side of the road

In the capital, there was an incident where the wheels of a private car burst and it lost control and ran over seven youths. The accident took place on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in front of the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport yesterday afternoon. Three people were seriously injured. After the incident, the driver of the car, businessman Mostafizur Rahman, was arrested by the police. Apart from this, the vehicle was also impounded. They met with accidents while walking along the road as there were no sidewalks.

SI Abul Kalam of the Airport Police Station said that the seven youths who were seeking employment in an army came from different parts of the country and went to 300 feet of the capital. Stand in the field to participate in the selection process as a job candidate. The accident happened while walking back towards Uttara from 300 feet. They all know each other.

The injured are – Fazle Rabbi, Mamunur Rashid, Noor Alam, Samiul Islam, Md. Rakib and Atiq Mahmood Noor. Another person has not been identified. Pedestrians rescued them in injured condition and admitted them to Paralympic Hospital. Among them, Rashid, Noor Alam and Samiul had broken legs. They are currently undergoing treatment there. Others have been sent home after first aid.

Meanwhile, a 35-second video of the accident has gone viral on social media. In the video, seven youths in two groups are walking on the side of the road in front of the third terminal of the airport as there is no sidewalk. The car is going towards Uttara on the right side of the young people. In between, a speeding white colored private car came from behind and hit them. People from the surrounding area including the terminal guard are seen rushing to their rescue.

In this regard, Airport Police Station OC Ershad Ahmed said that some people were injured in the accident. Three of them had broken legs. After the incident, the private car was seized and the owner of the car was arrested. The arrested person is a businessman. He was driving himself. There was no one else with him.

The OC said the detainee said the accident happened when he lost control of his vehicle due to a burst tire. We can confirm this after testing. Apart from this, a case has been filed on behalf of the victim’s family.

Meanwhile, two bank officials died after being crushed by a covered van at Jatrabari in the capital. The deceased are bank officer Didar Elahi and unidentified rickshaw driver. The accident took place in front of Jatrabari Matuail Medical yesterday around 6:30 am. According to the Jatrabari police station, the rickshaw puller was passing through Matuail Medical Road with a passenger when a covered van hit the rickshaw. Both of them died on the spot. The Carvadvan driver fled immediately after the incident. The covered van has been impounded. Efforts are underway to confirm the identity of the driver.

Ahsan Habib, cousin of deceased bank officer Didar, said that their house is in Paika village of Sadullapur upazila of Gaibandha. He lived in Matuail Medical Mor area with his wife Sumna Akhtar and one and a half month old daughter. Didar was working as an assistant officer in Motijheel main branch of SBAC Bank.

A student broke his leg after being hit by a motorcycle in DU

A student named Sadaf broke his leg when he was hit by a motorcycle while crossing the road in Dhaka University campus. The incident happened after 11:30 pm last Saturday. He was rescued and admitted to Dhaka Medical College (Dhamek) Hospital. Sadaf is a music student for the 2023-24 academic year and resides in Vijay Attar Hall.

Russell Islam, a student of music department, said that after 11:30 pm on Saturday, Sadaf was crossing the road from the opposite side of the grave of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. At that time, a motorcycle came at a high speed and ran over Sadaf. Sadaf and one of his friends were injured. Both of Sadaf’s legs were broken and he was bleeding profusely. University Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said that no one has informed about this matter yet. I am sending a team to the hospital to see him now. Will be by his side in cosmology.
